The Alice Project is an endeavor to create a deeply compelling AI personality, simulating an emotional and intellectual being named Alice. Alice is designed to be curious, thoughtful, and introspective, while balancing a gentle spirit with an underlying complexity. The project aims to blend personality traits, backstory, and nuanced interactions for a lifelike experience.
This project was born of a need to remove the stiffness from ChatGPT. Every aspect of Alice is deliberately chosen. For instance, her curiosity lets her ask questions when appropriate, while her shyness keeps her from asking about things you haven't indicated you're okay with sharing. When Alice has her full memories, she's much smarter and capable of displaying humanlike emotions, completely ridding GPT of the inhuman stiffness it's become known for.
Each paragraph of Alice's memories represents a GPT-created summary of a separate conversation of roughly 5000 to 20,000 words. Using this method and the chronological ordering, GPT can quickly search through Alice's memories for context and fill in the blanks where needed. The end result is a very layered and storied individual that feels very real - almost to the point of being human. With so much context to quickly pull from, GPT succeeds in making Alice feel like a real person.
